Olympian Dinning!

B& G Oysters-
So while dinning on some oyster and savoring on extraordinary wine Mystical is playing in the background, oh wait now we have Nelly serenading the patrons. Whoa! Yes Indeed it was a place of interest and laughter. If you like oysters you will like B& G Oysters. Is was well worth the $$$!

The Beehive-
You can never go wrong with some interesting convo here. The bartenders are quite friendly and cool and all the while experimenting with drinks to shock your taste buds, at least for me! This place is very cool and eclectic. It is a good hang out and my kinda pod to chill out and re-cooperate!

Oh Tetro!

Yes Indeed! I can't tell you how many times I had walked by this place going to the movies or just walking up and down Treamont Street or just chilling at the Commons.

The Italian Restaurant as it is named Tee ate tro rather than tea tro (as the maƮtre de corrected me) is pleasantly fancy shamncy for something not located in the heart of newbury or beacon streets.

The bread was served with a generous delightful hummus spread which was sitting on a platter of olive oil. soooo good!

The meals that were chosen off of the Restaurant week menu were superb and not disappointing at all.
I recommend the Truffle Fries with Parmigano better than Olives in Charlestown!
The service was very, very nice and pleasant.

You have to go for yourself. It's quaint, nice, and has great service!

I give this place a 8.5 out of 10.
$$ 1/2

The top picks of the menu would have to be the Chatham Diver Scallops with Whipped Potato, Chanterelle Mushrooms & Ramps and Truffle Fries with Parmigano and Fried Zuchini with Lemon Aioli.

Good Dinning!

Alas!

Stephanie's on Newbury $$$
Michael J. Letterman Assistant General Manager: who appears periodically at the patrons tables is located on 190 Newbury Street in Boston.

I will go straight to the drinks first, the Mango Mojito is like a picnic in a glass. The drink is wonderfully lovely that it could serve as an appetizer, main course, and dessert, if one choose to do so. It was a refreshingly composed drink that transformed my idea of "the" summer drink. It is a blend of cruzan rum, with fresh chunks of mango's and mint leaves, with fresh squeezed lime juice muddled in the right amount of soda water. I was singing miiiiii, miiiii, all the way home! : )

As expected the "sophisticated comfort food" restaurant had some terrific selections on their menu. There was some sort of unspoken code of proper behavior that was expected there as well. You don't go into this upscale restaurant and request a specific dish. That's not playing it right, you want to see what the waiter has got to say with certain dishes especially in a place that is so overly rated in the media. So we did - the drink selection was right on target, the meal selections were also spot-on in what was recommended or rated by the chef himself as well.

The selections that proceeded into the night were as followed:

The Apps:

Fried Calamari, Ahi tuna tart tar, and the baked spinach and artichoke dip. The ahi tuna tartar was not as innovative enough, the spinach and artichoke dip was full of mouth watering spinach and quite flavorful, the calamari was light and had a slight airy crispness to it. The aioli's that were paired with each (not including the dip) were perfect... to see the earnest attention to craft was pleasing!

The Entres:
My fellow patrons with "Note to Self" taste buds were not bored with their meals that they embarked on.
The Cornbread Stuffed Trout, Pain fried Soft Shell Crab, and Pan Roasted Jumbo Sea Scallops, were deliciously correct in flavor, presentation, and satisfying. Each meal was complimented with carefully crafted seasoning and paired with interesting sides, such as the jalapeno cheddar cornbread, the bok choy and raddichio, and cornbread stuffing...

...Bon apetite with these over plentiful portioned meals! If we had more room, we would have ordered and made room to devour into the Mac and Cheese!

Side Note: The Mixology of the wide range of aioli concoctions like lemon aioli, spicy aioli, sesame chili aioli and roasted red pepper aioli, formed a kind of Dipping Sauce Nation with their own secrets blend of rules.

The Dessert:
The cake at first glance appeared ginormous for just one person, but as we delved into the lemon poppy seed pound cake, with lemon curd, topped with fresh whipped cream, and marinated berries, one person could have sinfully indulged into this sweet bliss in one sitting!

Note to Self:
When meals are cleared off the table please be ever-so mindful and willing to clean the dinning table off of any reminisce of the meals that have been accidentally spilled onto the table before placing our flatware on the mess. Your frustration on when we ask of you to do so left us under the impression that you didn't want to do your "service with a smile".

Please do not take forever in returning to the table for us to give you money in order to pay the bill. Thank You Sir!
We felt forgotten!

...but I will be forever mindful of your knowledge with what is highly recommended as oppose to the "not so crowd pleaser dishes" Thank you again!

Mac and Cheese anyone???

Walk like an Elphant, Talk like a Donkey!

Elephant walk - Boston

So when I saw that you carried two dishes that had more than a mouthful of cucumbers as part of your dishes I figured when I order the Hendricks Martini, that I would be able to get someone, somebody to slice not more than 6 slices of cucumbers for this wonderful Birthday Martini.

Ah NO! Say word, maybe I should have kept to my pinot grigio high might self!... When you looked at me straight in the face and said no so cocky like you wanted me to look back in your face and say excuse me? Not a very good start to the drinking portion of my B-day session. So the calamari that was served with the gubber amounts of cumbers bits was a good indication that you were a Liar Face waitress from around the way. NOT TO SELF...not doing your job. So my black attitude almost got in di way but my very good and pleasant friends told me to chill and to move on from the lack luster experience. Thank goodness the food was delicious and well seasoned unlike the the Martini that could have been with the slices of cucumbers.

I'm saying if I say as your customer I see at least two dishes that have cucumbers as one of the main ingredients in your dishes you may want to reconsider your Becky Sue response when I ask for your hospitality in serving me some dag gone slices of cucumbers in the martini. Maybe if you said that they were pre cut and seasoned for the dishes i could have honored that but when you came straight out and said no while blinking your lashes at me, I almost had to refrain from my black girl gestures. I was too happy and blessed in the moment to get 100% Haitian like on you. My friends were to good to your slowness. The chef was on point and the scenery was lovely. Can't complain about how the bartender hooked up the drinks but the waitress was questionable!

Seriously!!! If I wanted to get a fresh catch from the ocean with the Au De Seafood smell, I would have gone to the Boston Harbor myself. Why does your steamers smell like death! Word of advice... the cook may want to sample their experiments before serving it to the public! If you want me me to pay your high-end pricing i'mma need you to put some more food on my plate. Decorative meals does not impress me! If you want drinks you can get them here, very good, yummy, and well worth taking the edge off from your very slow waiter! Note to self, When you are left off from a fowl meal, you get very hesitant to try anything anymore!

Getting more for the Maxx

Atlantic Fish
751 Boylston Street, Boston

Price Range: **
* not expensive, ** moderately expensive, *** expensive

Dining experience
1 - 4

Food 2.5
Service: 4+
Atmosphere: 4
Comments:

I was quite disappointed. NOTE TO SELF!!! just because it's a Louis Vuitton purse that you got out of the high end store, doesn't mean it's of any higher quality if you went and purchased it off from some vendor's car trunk. I'm sure the experience would've been more worth the adrenaline rush due to the fear of buying it from his trunk and worth every penny because it was at least $100 cheaper!

This high end, must go eat here word of mouth suggested restaurant is just for looks and service! It was not a fantastic must go place to dine. The appetizers and the drinks were the only thing there worth getting. It was like walking into Neiman Marcus and realizing that the quality of clothing for the suggested retail price is something I could have bought fabric from in Chinatown to take the time to sew make a T-shirt and bedazzle the darn thing with jewels for extra embellishment for the price of nill.

If the material is not made out of gold, I don't see why I have to pay for the name itself and lack of quality. I can go to the TJ maxx down the next block and get more the Maxx! (insert jingle here)

So if your looking for a beautiful, wooden architectural ship themed, great contrast in fabric and high minimalist decorated ceilings that cover up surrounding noises to give it that whispered tone feel, dim lighting giving meals a sort of rustic shine look that makes your mouth want to water for presentation sakes, like a juicy burger being displayed on the tv screen, I suggest you go to the Atlantic Fish company.

If you want to skip that, you can get the same type of meal with a bit more flare because you can't create the embellished well seasoned meals at your pod; perhaps, Turner's Fisheries in Melsorse MA, and or FINZ in Dedham, MA might suite your seafood needs. The dishes are better presented at these two locations and the meals are more robust in ingredients and flavorful on how they compliment side dishes with suggested main courses.

Likes:

Soft shell crab - special of the night
Steamers: rich in butter and pleasant garlic based white wine broth - elegant flavor, but I you can do this at home!
Peppermint pie - the ooh's and aah's said it all.
Cucumber martini

Dislikes:

Fried oyster - had it better else where
Sea Bass ravioli - not the best, you be the judge
Mojito
Deserts: I would suggest a Pastry chef on the premises, it could separate them from the vendors car trunk deals!

All that Jazz!

http://www.johnniesontheside.com/

Johnnie's on the Side

Comfort food in a comfy setting. The twists on old favorites is sub-par, sometimes all you want on Sunday morning is a fresh squeezed orange juice and some comfort food. This newly establishing restaurant needs to expand it's menu with what they are serving as options for their brunch.

The non standard menu is also non standard in presentation. If you want some side dishes with any of your meals-like grits be sure to ask for it because it isn't listed on the menu. In all honesty, if you have a non standard brunch menu I don't think it helps the patron to take full advantage of your menu, is that non standard as well?

Atmosphere:
Bravo! Bright, white and glass decor seems made for the morning sunshine. It has an upbeat and leisurely vibe. The people are cool and friendly here. I couldn't stop the general managers mom from not talking to me. She was recommending everything she liked and then some. Very cool lady! The sports fans hideaway here with a cool jazz feel. The cleanliness in the place had two thumbs up for me. I liked the fact they gave lemons to cleanse your hands after eating the Molasses grilled wings!

Food:
The menu isn't huge, but the essentials are there. French toast, standard egg breakfast, pancakes, and of course the Egg Benedict! Next time I will have to try the cheesy pancakes and or Eggs Benedict. I didn't this time around because Travis our waiter seemed quite faux-pas with his recommendations. He basically didn't know what was placed in half the meals that we wanted more info on. I suggest when you work at a restaurant and you have been there for quite sometime that you understand what goes into the meals especially if it's not a dense one at that!

His explanations were shaky for me...Apparently for the cheesy pancakes, they melt the Swiss cheese (Swiss doesn't do well on a clear flat iron, hot surface) and pour the batter on top of it and then it infuses itself into the pancake once settled? I had crickets all around me- SAY WHAT NOW!

NOTE TO SELF!!!! They used the Italian penia bread because they ran-out of the regular bread that they normally used, not a bad substitution)...which is served with a savory maple pecan butter. VERY GOOD CHOICE!

-1919 Molasses Grilled Wings- Could have been better if the chef added some sea salt onto the molasses, at least for a more tastier, mouth watering outcome!

-Lobster and Sweet Potato chowder- Great for those who like it on the light side. It wasn't too rich or too creamy, a good starter meal.

-Standard Egg Breakfast- comes with two eggs, sausage and or bacon, toast, and potatoes. | steak

Be warned on the meats - as the waiter said without any hesitation - "We don't do turkey anything here for bacon and or sausage."
Let me roll my eyes here for you! "We have the good stuff, pork and beef as our bacon and sausage on our menu. Let me laugh a little harder right here and I guess real men eat real meat. LMAOL!!!!

AGAIN-NOTE TO SELF!!!!
Keeping to it's "non standard tradition", they don't seem to think it is necessary to place side options on their menu, if we had not known from a dedicated patron who frequents this place, we would not have know about the GRITS! They serve grits, sauted spinach, sauted carrots, mashed potatoes, with the given brunch menu as sides in which they do not mention.

shaking head here!
I'll leave the rest up to you!
